In the future, the Chennai residents would not come across cattle roaming in their congested localities. The reason for that is GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation is having plans to ban cattle in these localities.
On Thursday, 27th June 2024, Chennai Mayor Priya took part in a meeting with the officials belonging to Animal Husbandry dept and police dept. The meeting also saw the presence of GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan. The objective behind this meeting was to provide a solution to civic problems caused by the straying cattle.
It must be recalled that a few decades back, GCC had maintained enclosures in places like Kosapet to house cattle. After milking the cattle, the milk was sold from the cattle yard at Kosapet. Later on, the cattle yards were shut down.
Information collected is that GCC is now planning to construct cattle yards in outer places in Chennai like Padappai to house cattle owned by the residents. For the construction of cattle yards, the Animal Husbandry and Dairying dept as well as the Revenue dept would identify lands to build cattle yards. It is now brought out that after the construction of the cattle yard the residents would be able to raise cattle in the yard.
