The Chennai Municipal Corporation has cracked down on unauthorized billboards in the metropolitan area. Over 460 billboards, including 250 above 30 feet in height along with their foundations, have been removed for lack of proper licensing.
Recently, the Corporation`s approval committee reviewed 1,100 applications for new billboards. Approved applications have been forwarded to Zonal Officers for building stability checks. Applicants are also instructed to obtain police clearance certificates. Once these requirements are met, permissions will be granted. This initiative is expected to generate an annual revenue of Rs. 30 crore for the Corporation, officials confirmed.
