The Madras High Court declined to direct the state to allow south-bound private buses to pick up and drop off passengers at Koyambedu, Perungalathur, Vanagaram, and Maduravoyal toll plazas until the Kilambakkam bus terminus Metro rail project is completed. The bench, led by Acting Chief Justice R. Mahadevan and Justice Mohammed Shaffiq, instructed petitioner Ramkumar Adityan to present his arguments to the bench handling the appeal against the order mandating private buses to operate from the Kilambakkam bus terminus.
Adityan`s PIL requested permission for private buses to use existing stops and sought restrictions on trucks and commercial vehicles on GST Road and at the Vanagaram toll gate until a U-shaped flyover is built. He also proposed a new suburban railway station and a Metro line from Chennai airport to Kilambakkam.
Advocate General PS Raman referenced a prior order requiring private buses to use the Kilambakkam bus terminus and noted that an appeal from private bus operators is ongoing. The bench directed Adityan to approach the court handling the bus operators` appeal, prompting him to withdraw the PIL.
