The Central Government has introduced a new regulation limiting the number of SIM cards an individual can possess to nine, aiming to curb the misuse of SIM cards for criminal activities. This measure is intended to prevent criminals from using and discarding multiple SIM cards to evade detection.
Under the new law, anyone found possessing more than nine SIM cards will face stringent penalties, including a three-year jail term. The regulation is even stricter in Assam and Jammu & Kashmir, where individuals are allowed a maximum of six SIM cards.
Penalties for violating this law are severe. First-time offenders will be fined up to Rs. 50,000, while repeat offenders could face fines up to Rs. 3 lakh. This initiative reflects the government`s commitment to enhancing security and reducing criminal activity associated with mobile communications.
