With the northeast monsoon approaching, frequent mild to moderate rains have become common. In Tiruvallur, the open sewage in front of the Deputy Director of Health Service building on North Raja Street poses a serious threat to school and college students, senior citizens, and others using the route.
A resident highlighted that the junction of North Raja Street and Tiruvallur High Road is heavily crowded with school students in the evenings, making it difficult for motorists to navigate the waterlogged road with open sewage. The bad odor is also a significant issue for the public.
A local grocery shop owner pointed out that the open drain is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of diseases. A college student expressed concerns about students playing near the unclosed drain after school hours, emphasizing the potential danger of falls and injuries.
An autorickshaw driver added that passengers waiting for buses and autos often contribute to the waterlogging by throwing bottles and snack wrappers into the drain, causing clogs and overflow. Residents urge the Tiruvallur Municipality to close the open sewage drain promptly to prevent further issues.
