Chennai started its Monday morning with cold, wet conditions, and the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, forecasts that this weather will persist for the next three hours. Rain is expected to spread across 16 districts, including Chennai.
The districts likely to see moderate rainfall are Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai.
The department noted an atmospheric low circulation over Tamil Nadu`s coastal areas. Due to variations in westerly wind speeds, Chennai and nearby suburbs are expected to experience light to moderate rain, with possible thunder and lightning, over the next 48 hours.
Earlier, widespread rain affected several parts of the city overnight, including Egmore, Purasaiwalkam, Guindy, and Chetpet.
