Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Commissioner J Kumaragurubaran has mandated the installation of GPS devices in all Corporation vehicles. This directive applies to various vehicles, including garbage trucks, backhoes, and mechanical sweepers.
The Chennai Corporation manages a fleet of 2,886 vehicles used for garbage collection and other purposes. The decision follows complaints that drivers were leaving their duties mid-shift for personal reasons, causing service disruptions.
To address this issue, the Commissioner has ordered that GPS devices be fitted to all Corporation vehicles. This will enable real-time tracking of their locations and trip histories.
