The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has identified Minjur, Red Hills, Poonamallee, and Vandalur as key nodes for economic growth under the Outer Ring Road (ORR) development plan. A detailed development draft for a 62 km stretch of the ORR, covering one km on either side, is set to be finalized by the end of October.
These nodes will feature distinct economic activities, and the CMDA is collaborating with several departments, including Industries, SIPCOT, TIDCO, and CUMTA, to ensure cohesive development. Ten pockets have been earmarked for land pooling to promote compact development, and the plan includes transit-oriented development with integrated activity centers and affordable housing.
The ORR, connecting various national highways, will also see the addition of multimodal transportation options, such as the proposed Poonamallee Metro station. Nearby areas like Nazarethpet, Nemilicheri, Attanthangal, and Sholavaram are also expected to benefit from infrastructure and real estate growth.
