Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, N Muruganandam, inspected various drainage and waterbody restoration projects in north Chennai on Friday, ahead of the northeast monsoon. The inspection covered multiple sites, including an approach canal and water tank near the Gandhi Irwin Bridge, costing Rs 5.20 crore, and a rainwater drainage system on Stephenson Road.
At Ward 77 in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, he visited a pumping station and other structures being built for Rs 17.57 crore to drain rainwater into the Buckingham Canal. He instructed officials to monitor the station closely during the rainy season and use motor pumps as needed.
Muruganandam also checked a rainwater tank in Ward 73 and a 3,050-meter-long overflow canal in Thanikasalam Nagar, which is being upgraded to a closed-form canal. He advised officials to prevent waterlogging and expedite the works.
Additionally, he inspected a railway flyover under construction over the Ganesapuram tunnel in Tondiarpet and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, costing Rs 226.55 crore, with a completion deadline set for March 2025.
