August has ended and we are now in the month of September. In August, there were many days that were humid and many days with deficit rainfall. Now, Indian Meteorological Dept or IMD has predicted below normal rains in September too but the days would become pleasant in Chennai and in many parts of TN. For the next 2 days, Chennai would witness light to moderate rains.

The rainfall would be below normal in places like TN, south interior Karnataka, south coastal AP, Rayalaseema etc. In this month, other parts across India would have normal or above normal rains. This was mentioned by Mr. Mrutunjay Mohapatra, director general of IMD.

In many parts belonging to TN, the maximum temperature would be below normal and minimum temp would be below normal in some isolated places. Information gathered is that 15th September is the normal withdrawal of SW monsoon.

Mr. Mohapatra spoke about how the prediction could not show below normal rainfall in the second half of the month of September. Point is that it is difficult to forecast the withdrawal now. Only after the withdrawal of SW monsoon, the NE monsoon would begin to bring rains to Chennai and TN. The Nungambakkam observatory recorded 9cm of rain in the month of August.

It must be noted that usually in September Chennai would receive an average rainfall of 15cm before NE monsoon arrives on 15th of October.
