A 45-year-old passenger aboard an IndiGo Airlines flight from Chennai to Mumbai attempted to open the emergency door during takeoff, prompting the pilot to halt the flight on the runway.
The flight was scheduled to depart from Chennai Domestic Airport at 10:30 PM last night with 152 passengers on board. As the aircraft prepared for takeoff, the emergency door alarm activated.
The passenger, identified as Varun Bharat from Mumbai, claimed he accidentally pressed the button; however, the pilot did not accept this explanation. Aviation security officials promptly boarded the plane to question him, leading to the cancellation of his travel.
Varun was removed from the flight and handed over to the Chennai airport police, who registered a case against him for violating the Aviation Safety Act.
Following this significant disruption, the flight eventually took off for Mumbai at 12:30 AM, two hours later than scheduled.
