Tamil Nadu Handlooms Minister R. Gandhi inaugurated one side of the new bridge built across Level Crossing 2 at the railway siding line in Pattabiram on September 25, 2024.
The State government sanctioned ₹78.31 crore for the construction of the bridge, which included ₹23.53 crore for land acquisition and ₹35.58 crore for civil costs.
Currently, traffic movement is permitted only on one side of the bridge as the railways have yet to construct a span over the railway lines. The project received government approval in 2011, with construction commencing in March 2018.
Local activists have expressed support for the long-awaited bridge, noting that it will significantly benefit thousands of residents from Avadi, Nemilicheri, and Pattabiram.
