Next time you travel in the MTC bus in Chennai, you need not feel tense searching for the exact ticket amount!!

Cash based ticketing systems in the MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses in Chennai would soon become a thing of the past.

It is common to witness passengers at the receiving end from the MTC bus conductors for not giving the exact amount for purchasing the bus tickets for their bus travel. In the future, this important issue of the passengers would not be there. Within a month, MTC is planning to introduce NCMC or national common mobility cards for cashless transactions in the buses in Chennai. Truth is that the bus tickets would be issued to the passengers with ease through an electronic ticketing machine or ETM.

The MD of MTC Mr. Alby John Verghese mentioned that once the facility is integrated the passengers could use NCMC issued by CMRL.

It must be recalled that MTC was planning this facility earlier but there were some technical issues in enabling its integration with electronic machines. This has led to the delay as it took some time to resolve. The official spoke about how within a month MTC would be introducing a cashless based ticketing process in the MTC buses in Chennai. The passengers could top up these NCMC cards and use them for their seamless travel.

The official revealed that in February 2024 the MTC launched ETMs for cashless payment to buy tickets. It must be noted that 99% of ticket transactions are being done through ETMs now.
