The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a new spot fines application module, aimed at cracking down on illegal waste dumping across the city. Following successful testing, the corporation is preparing to activate over 500 Point of Sale (PoS) devices as part of this digital initiative, which is part of a broader enforcement drive to keep Chennai cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
The GCC has taken a strong stance against both public and private property waste dumping. To deter offenders, the fine for illegal dumping has been significantly increased to Rs 5,000, compared to the previous amount of just Rs 500. This substantial hike reflects the corporation`s determination to curb this environmental hazard and promote responsible waste management among residents.
This spot fines system will enable quick, on-the-spot penalization of offenders, ensuring that violators are held accountable without delay. The introduction of the PoS devices will streamline the enforcement process, making it more efficient and transparent.
