Good News for Chennai: Steady Rains to Continue, But Extreme Weather Avoide

Chennai can breathe a sigh of relief as steady rains are expected to continue without the threat of extreme weather. According to the latest update from the Tamil Nadu Weatherman, while the Depression is forecasted to cross over Chennai, the convergence of winds will be north of the crossing area. This means that the city is likely to experience normal rainfall rather than the extreme downpours associated with the main Depression.

The heavy rainfall seen over the last two days has resulted in massive rainfall numbers, with some areas in Chennai and Tiruvallur district recording close to 300 mm. However, with the wind convergence shifting towards south Andhra Pradesh, Chennai is spared from further severe weather conditions.

There may still be some manageable rains due to the pull effect from the Depression between October 18th and 20th once it moves inland. Vehicle owners who had parked their vehicles on flyovers as a precautionary measure can now safely bring them back home.

The city remains on alert, but the situation appears to be manageable, offering some relief to residents who have experienced significant rainfall over the past few days. Authorities will continue to monitor the weather closely and provide further updates as needed.
