Sitara Indoor Sports Complex at IIT Madras is turning many heads now!!
At the IIT M campus, Sitara Indoor Sports Complex was inaugurated and this is making many heads turn now. It is now believed that the sporting activities at this premier educational institution would get upgraded.
Information collected is that the sports complex was inaugurated at IITM campus by well known sports personalities such as TT champion Sharath Kamal, Davis Cup tennis player Somdev Devvarman and Bronze medallist at Paralympics Badminton Championship in Paris 2024.
According to a release from IITM, Sitara Indoor Sports Complex has state-of-art badminton courts, a gallery on the mezzanine floor, multiple TT courts and an open tennis court on the terrace. The credit for the launch of this sports complex at IITM must go to the huge efforts of an anonymous donor and an alumnus at IIT M.
There are some facilities present already at IITM campus for football, volleyball, basketball and cricket grounds, gymkhana sports complex and a swimming pool etc. In the future, there might be a possibility of an Olympian as IIT alumni and this was mentioned by Mr. V. Kamakoti, director of IITM.
Under the Sports Excellence Admission or SEA, 5 national sports champions have been admitted and in the future many more sports persons would be admitted. It must be noted that national champions and others would be brought to IITM so that the students would be able to play with them and improve their standards.
It is amazing to note that IITM is the first ever IIT across India to give admission to the sportspersons in the UG programmes.
