By middle of 2027, AIIMS construction in Madurai would be completed!!
There is some light now at the end of the tunnel with respect to the completion of AIIMS construction in Madurai in Tamil Nadul!!
In another 3 years, Thoppur in Madurai would become an important place in Tamil Nadu. Sensational isn`t it!!
It is now revealed that by the middle of 2027 the construction would be completed in this place.
The AIIMS campus in Madurai would be ready in another 33 months from the notice to the proceed order or NTP order issued to Larsen & Tourbo company on 22nd of May 2024. This was according to the management. Already, the construction has began in Thoppur.
The status of the project work has been confirmed by the central public officer of AIIMS to a RTI activist named Pandiaraja.
In the middle of 2027, the first phase construction work of AIIMS hospital and medical college (constructed at a huge amount of Rs 2021.51 crores) would be completed.
Various works that are now going on are construction of academic blocks, nursing college, UG and PG hostels, nursing students hostels, dining hall, OPD block, ID block and service zones etc. This was mentioned by RTI petitioner based on the response.
On 28th Februray in 2015, the project regarding AIIMS was announced is well known to us. On 18th June 2018, the Thoppur site for construction was identified and on 17th of December 2018 approval was issued by the Union Cabinet
The foundation stone was laid by the Indian PM on the 27th of January.
It is worthy to note that despite the Union Cabinet issuing the approval on 3rd July 2020 for establishing AIIMS, the college started to function from the temporary premises. Truth is that the proposed site at Thoppur was left with just the foundation stone only. In January 2021, the budget for building AIIMS was increased to Rs 2000 crores. The reason was due to the upgradation to super specialty hospital & medical college.
