The NE winds prevailing over the sea have resulted in dense fog now in Chennai during the early morning hours. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature at Nungambakkam was 24.7 degrees Celsius. For the next 2 to 3days, cold weather would be present in Chennai and in some isolated places across the state of Tamil Nadu

It is worth noting that light to moderate easterlies or north easterlies prevail over the region in the lower tropospheric levels. This has led to moderate to dense fog in Chennai plus in its neighbourhood areas between 6:30a and 8:30am on Tuesday. The fog has also affected flights now.

It was later brought out by Regional Met Centre or RMC in Chennai that shallow fog or mist is likely to be present during the morning hours at isolated pockets in TN particularly in the coastal districts.

It must be noted that dry weather would prevail in the state and at some isolated pockets maximum temperature would be 2 degrees to 3 degrees higher than the normal from 7th of February.

The temp would be near normal in most parts of TN that is between 28 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius from 7th to 13th of February. This was as per extended range predictions by dynamical models. Over most parts of TN, minimum temperatures would be slightly above the normal that is between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius over the coastal and adjoining interior districts of TN. Till 13th of February, rest of TN would witness 16 to 20 degrees Celsius.

During the morning hours for the next 48 hours, shallow to moderate fog or mist would prevail in Chennai and its suburbs. It is said that the maximum temperature would hover around 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature would hover around 21 to 22 degrees Celsius.
