We are in the middle of February, still Chennai residents are finding it difficult due to the early morning cold and fog etc!!
For the next few days, the early morning fog or haze would continue in some places in Tamil Nadu. This was mentioned by the RMC or Regional Meteorological Centre.
Light fog was witnessed in the early morning hours in Chennai and its neighbourhoods yesterday. In places like Arakkonam, Chengalpet and Tiruvallur having more vegetation, the early morning fog was a bit heavy. It must be noted that open spaces like playgrounds, parks etc would be foggy.
The presence of heavy fog has affected the visibility around 6:30am along the Arakkonam- Thiruvalangadu road. It was mentioned by a Arakkonam resident that headlights were used as the fog has been heavier than normal.
In Pallavaram in south Chennai, security personnel guarding establishments burnt garbage to keep them warm as the weather was cold in the morning and during late night. This was revealed by a resident belonging to Pallavaram. He spoke about how he took an early morning metro train to the city and how the visibility was poor. He concluded that there was smog in the air.
According to a senior meteorologist Mr. Y.E.A Raj, winter is still present across Tamil Nadu now but it might not be as cold as in the north. He then explained how when the temperature falls air cannot hold on the moisture. He added that it could be either as dew formation or fog/haze. There would be fog or dew for some more days.
