Within the next 2 weeks, the newly constructed Pamban Bridge would be inaugurated and Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi would preside over the ceremony. This was revealed by Mr. Kaushal Kishore, AGM of Southern Railways or SR. By this, the long wait regarding the inauguration of this bridge would come to an end.
The exact date of inauguration of Pamban Bridge has yet to be confirmed despite the fact that the ministry of railways had announced that the Indian Prime Minister would inaugurate the bridge.
Mr. Kaushal Kishore was busy inspecting the arrangements regarding the inauguration of Pamban Bridge. He spoke about how the exact date of inauguration was not yet finalised. He hinted that the inauguration would take place within two weeks. At a later stage, a decision regarding maintenance of the old bridge would be taken. No decision has been taken yet as far as naming the new bridge after former Indian president Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalam. Three full fledged rehearsals have been conducted in anticipation of the high profile event.
To assess logistical and security preparations etc, extensive inspections of important locations near Rameswaram and Pamban etc were carried out on Saturday by a team of senior railways officials led by Mr. Kaushal Kishore, AGM. The inspection also witnessed the presence of Madurai Divisional Railways Manager or DRM Mr. Sharad Srivastava and other top railway officials.`
It is learnt that after the inspections, Mr. Kaushal Kishore held consultations with the railways authorities. Law enforcement agencies, state and central intelligence officers etc to finalise the security measures and event logistics etc.
