The Tamil Nadu Educational Trust which was formed in the year 1973 has the Governor of Tamil Nadu as the President of the Trust. It awards scholarships to help meritorious and economically backward students pursuing Under Graduate and Post Graduate Courses in Arts, Science and Professional Courses in Tamil Nadu.
The Meeting of the managing committee of the trust was held at Raj Bhavan, Guindy recently. Governor of Tamil Nadu K Rosaiah and its members M A M Ramaswamy, Kumara Rani Meena Muthiah and government officials and educationists took part in the meeting.
For graduate courses the scholarship has been increased from Rs 4500 to Rs 5000, while for PG students, the amount has been raised to Rs 5500 from Rs 5000.
For professional courses the committee has decided to increase he stipend to Rs 6000 from Rs 5500 and for PhD, scholars it has been raised to Rs 8000 from Rs 6500.
Students who have passed the qualifying examination with a first class ranking - with 60% marks and above, whose parents/guardian’s income does not exceed `2 lakh per annum and who are not in receipt of any other scholarships are eligible to apply.
Students studying in their first year of UG or Post Graduate Course in Arts and Science or any Professional Courses such as Medical, Engineering, PhD, in Tamil Nadu are only eligible for scholarship.
For the application form, students can apply to the Honorary Secretary, The Tamil Nadu Educational Trust, Rani Seethai Hall, 6th Floor, No. 603, Anna Salai, Chennai – 600 006 with a self-addressed envelope of 22.5 cms x 10 cms with `10 postage stamp affixed to it.
The applications will be issued till November 15. Completed applications should reach the office on or before November 30.
