Tamilnadu Government gets ready to face monsoon

The Tamilnadu Government is gearing up to face the North East Monsoon.

Municipal administration minister K P Munusamy held a high-level meeting with various service agencies, including the city corporation, Metrowater, collectorate, regional meteorological centre, public works department, police, National Disaster Management Authority, fire and rescue services, electricity, highways, agriculture, Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Aavin, defence, coast guard, fisheries and health department.
 
In the course of the meeting, the corporation and the public works department conveyed that they had removed silt in the minor and major waterways.
 
The Metrowater said sewerage treatment plants were functioning well. Munusamy is said to have directed the water agency to stock adequate number of generators and maintain chlorine level in the drinking water supplied in pipelines.
 
The officials were told to take up measures on a war footing manner by deploying adequate saws to remove uprooted trees from roadsides, accommodate people in the rehabilitation centres, offer food, water, engage additional motor pumps to remove water from the low-lying areas and subways and to use boats to rescue people from the affected areas.
 
In the health front, the minister directed to set up special camps with adequate number of doctors and stock of medicines to treat patients from getting infected with water borne diseases like cholera, fever and other communicable diseases.
 
Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was told to check the power cables and prevent accidents in the case of snapped lines. Arrangements have been made to offer support to people who try to reach the agencies using the helpline numbers.
