K.P.Munuswamy, municipal administration minister announced in the legislative assembly that Tamilnadu Goverenment has planned a new underground sewerage scheme to be implemented in corporations, municipalities and in panchayats all over the state at the cost of Rs.22,227 crore. It is hoped that urban local bodies hereafter will not indulge in the indiscriminate disposal of sewage.
The minister further said that government so far faced many problems in their present execution of underground sewerage scheme due to the lack of sufficient lands. Even when they acquired land, neighbors halt the work by getting interim injunction from the court.
Till now, TNWSDB is implementing this scheme in the district head quarters with the help of external funding agencies.
