Minister for Commercial Tax and Registration Dept. Mr. B.V. Ramana initiated the bill in the assembly on Tuesday to amend Tamilnadu Tax on Luxuries (Amendment) Bill 1981. The objective of Hon’ Minister is to raise the minimum charges for the luxury taxes levied on the hotel room rents.
The present tax came into force many years ago and it is an out dated one. To help the poor and the middle class people Government has decided to raise the minimum tax on Luxuries. Only those hotels that charge Rs. 500 per day for a single room need to register. It has been decided to further speed up the procedure so as to implement it.
