It was earlier notified by the Tamil Nadu Government that 14th November will be a public holiday on the occasion of  Muharram but yesterday the Government declared November 15 a public holiday

The notification in the extraordinary gazette came after the Chief Kazi`s letter to the state government

The Chief Kazi had stated that since the crescent (New Moon) has not yet been sighted in Tamil Nadu or any other parts of India for the New Islamic month of Muharram, the 10th day of Muharram 1435 Hijri (Islamic Calendar)will be observed on November 15 and requested to change the holiday.

The state government had earlier notified November 14 as a public holiday for Muharram under the negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
