Chennai will be having two hour power cuts from today. It is understood that Chennai is only metro city in India to face this crisis. And the dependence on generators and inverters could well burn a hole in the pockets of residents and commercial establishments. While those in the heart of the city are reluctantly preparing for the impending outages, those on the fringes are distraught. The news has compounded the woes of pockets battling crumbling infrastructure and poor civic amenities on a daily basis.
The owner of a small ice cream shop in North Chennai said, “Please help me.” He said he did not have a generator and would lose business if there were power cuts during the day.
