In the main
vegetable market at Koyambedu, the price of beans has drastically come down to
Rs. 10 per kilo.Vegetables for sales are transported to Koyambedu from Kerala,
Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and other places in Tamil Nadu.
During October,
the price of beans was Rs. 40 to 50 per kilo. On 1st December, beans
was solad at Rs. 6 to 10 per kilo. Both the public and the hotel owners bought
beans in bulk quantities.
The advisor of
the onion dealers’ association, Mr. Soundararajan informed:Presently, 850 tons
of onions are brought in 55 trucks to Koyambedu. This extra quantity led to the reduction in
the price of onion. The bulk price of onions in Chennai is determined by the
prices prevailing at Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. The prices are expected
to reduce further in coming weeks.The price of other vegetable also have gone
down – tomato (Rs. 35 per kilo), carrot (Rs. 35 per kilo), potato (Rs. 20 per
kilo), and brinjal (Rs.18 per kilo) – over the last few days.
