Well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal

The well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts will ramp up into a depression by Thursday. The ‘low’ in the south-west Bay will bring will continue to bring isolated heavy rainfall over coastal Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
 
Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu on Friday.
 
A general outlook for the next two days said that thundershowers will be confined to isolated places over the rest of Tamil Nadu but increase thereafter. Isolated places over Kerala and Lakshadweep shall also receive thundershowers during this period.
 
The major amounts of rainfall received until Thursday morning (in cm) are: Karaikal - 8; Nagapattinam - 6; and Pamban - 1.
