The government has
been taking various steps for reforming the jail inmates by provising training
on various fronts and rejoin the society to leas a normal life.
Plans to build 10
markets in all the central jails,A start on this plan was made when the Chief
Minister inaugurated the jail market, called ‘freedom’, inside the Central Jail
at Chennai. All products made by the jail inmates will be on sales. The jail inmates
will be trained on various trades.A separate visitors hall has been constructed
at the cost of Rs. 66.35 Lakhs covering 3,358sq. ft.
The visitors’ all
will also accommodate Testing rooms. Security arrangements for the stay of
security staff for transporting the prisoners to the court, hospital, etc for 200 guards has been provided at the cost
of Rs. 72.43 Lakhs covering 5,713 sq. ft.In order to provide limited freedom
and have a little more trust on the prisoners
All the prisoners are being trained in various trades so that they can make a new beginning in life by pursuing these trade-oriented jobs and avoid returning to criminal ways. Bakeries with latest equipment at the cost of Rs. 45 Lakhs have been built inside the jail premises where bread, bun, cookies, and cakes are prepared and sold to hospitals and other jails.54 telephone booths have been installed and inaugurated for the visitors to talk with their relatives and lawyers at the cost of Rs. 1.35 Crores at 9 Central Jails.Several important officials participated in the inauguration.
