Railways are very happy because the
dynamic fare system seems to have paid off with the AC premium train, which ran
non-stop from Mumbai to Delhi on Thursday, earning 33% more when compared to a
Rajdhani that operates on the same route.
With commuters demanding more such
services, the railway board has now decided to run four more premium trains in
the first week on January-they will leave from Mumbai on January 3 and 5 and
the same trains will return from Delhi on January 4 and 6 respectively. The earnings
of the 17-coach premium train that left from Mumbai Central on December 26, was
Rs 23.40 lakh-almost 33% more than that of a Rajdhani with a similar coach
configuration.A Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani runs with 21 coaches, including first
class AC coaches, pantry and power vans. But premium trains run with only 17 AC
coaches; there are no first-class coaches.
The fares for premium trains are
either on a par with or higher than the Rajdhani tatkal fare due to dynamic
pricing. The fares for the Mumbai-Delhi train for December 29 are Rs 3,587 and
Rs 2,422 for 2A and 3A respectively, while the tatkal fares for Rajdhani Express
are Rs 2,910 for 2A and Rs 2,175 for 3A.
Under the dynamic pricing system for
premium trains, the booking is only allowed through e-ticketing website. The
fares applicable for each day/transaction shall be indicated at the time of
booking on the IRCTC`s e-ticketing.
