Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations facilitate the travel of 2.10 Crore passengers per day. 20.634 buses are plying on different routes.
The recently introduced mini-buses linking the remote and outskirt
areas of the city to railway stations and bus terminals have been welcomed by
the public and are very popular.The Chief Minister has been proposing and
introducing new routes to bridge the existing gaps in different areas. The State
Transport Corporations have introduced 333 new buses, and 81 repaired buses making
a total of 414 buses. The operation was launched at the Kotanatu office by the
Chief Minister who handed over 7 keys to the bus drivers and flagged off the
buses.
With the improving revenue generated by the various improvements
activities initiated by the CM, Pension, Provident Fund and Leave travel concessions
for the retired and the current employees are being disbursed promptly.In the
year 2013, 247 retired employees retired received a total amount of Rs. 5.52
Crores towards pension settlement. For the years 2011 and 2012, more than 4,321
employees retired receiving the benefit of Rs.1408.68 Crores.
For the 538 employees who retired during May 2012 to June 2013,
Rs. 8.60 Crores were paid. For 5151 retired employees, Rs. 154.26 Crores were
disbursed as pension settlement amount, gratuity and leave salary.The Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister also inaugurated a new fully-equipped building for the
computer department in the Transport & Road Engineering College at Erode.
