Indian Railway is the largest in the world. Various attempts have been made to boost the revenue of the railway sector. For the benefit of the ordinary citizens, passenger trains with minimum possible are run in different parts of the country.
The train fare even
for expresses are nominal and lesser than the bus fares. The train fares are
kept in minimum and have not been raised keeping the poor public in mind.
Railways are planning
to introduce this variable fare system according to the seasonal demand for the
Air-conditioned coaches. A trial was undertaken by raising the fares in the
Bomby-Delhi A/C coached dsuring the last Christmas & New Year Holidays.
3-tier A/C Berths cost Rs. 12000/- and the 2-tier A/C berths Rs. 17,000/-. This
is 6 or 7 times more than the Rajdhani Express fares. This is expected to
increase the revenues.
Railways have also
decided to run premium train services with all facilities to the tourist places
with similar higher fares.
