A
decade ago, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) draws a plan of
framing a 6.5km traffic corridor linking Anna Salai and Poonamallee High Road.
More
traffic congestion in Chetpet, Nungambakkam and T.Nagar, urging the Chennai Corporation
to initiate this proposal. The Corporation planned to construct two corridors:
One with 3.5km tract from Anna Salai to Mahalingapuram; Another with 3 km
flyover connecting Poonamallee High Road and Tirumala Pillai Road.
This
flyover by surmise will wrap five traffic bottlenecks including: Chetpet
junction, Sterling Road junction, Tank Bund Road junction, Valluvar Kottam High
Road and College Road.After getting the public consultation, the viability plan
for 3.5km stretch has been completed along with the nine choices of easing
traffic congestion.
Tamil
Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services Limited has completed probability
study for the 3-km flyover at a cost of Rs. 90 lakh.
Since,
mass of vehicles pursuing on these stretches will be either originating or
destination of T.Nagar, Nungambakkam, Egmore and Chetpet, the consultants has
proposed more than 10 higher sorts of traffic solutions to ease congestion amid
Poonamallee High Road and T. Nagar.Junction enhancements and change for the
better pedestrian subways are likely to be vital workings in the design of the
corridor.
