Government has provided certain benefits for the socially backward communities in education and employment opportunities for their betterment. Caste certificates are essential to get these benefits. School students especially require the caste and income certificates.
Here is the procedure to obtain the same:
The revenue Department issues the caste certificate informing the individual belongs to a particular caste listed by the Tamil Nadu government. This is specially required by the students and individuals joining government services. This is only a temporary certificate. It may be used for several years. An individual cannot change his / her caste. However, while converting into another religion, the class may change necessitating a new community certificate.
So, whenever converting to another religion, the concerned individuals should register the same and obtain new caste certificates.
There are some other reasons apart from education when caste certificate is required. For example, the 2-daughters welfare scheme. A specific certificate only for this purpose will be issued.
Where to apply?
Applications are available at the Ward offices. The applications must be duly filled attached with the necessary evidences such as Ration Cards, Transfer Certificates, and parent`s caste certificate. These are required in order to simplify the procedure and quicker release of certificates.
Even if an applicant does not have ration card, caste certificate, may still need to be issued. It can be processed with the details given in the application. The officials will not insist on any additional evidences. In these cases, additional cooperation from the applicant is required. Ward office has the authority to verify the facts and take decisions.
