The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the largest donor for afforestation programmes in India is organising a two-day workshop on February 17 and 18 at Fishermans Cove in Chennai. The objective is to provide a platform for forest department officials and policy makers of all JICA-assisted projects and NGOs to share best practices.
The Tamil Nadu Afforestation Programme, which is in its second phase, will focus on technology such as GIS, HRD, research, forest extension and infrastructure development.
It will also support communities with livelihood opportunities. Over 800 village forest committees and 2,900 self help groups have been formed.
