Chennai on Monday was experiencing rains.  The city, which has experienced pleasant evenings so far this month, received 9.2mm of rain on Monday. However, after the rain clouds pass Chennai on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, the maximum temperature is expected to rise gradually.

Y E A Raj, deputy director general, India Meteorological Department, Chennai mentioned, “After this system passes, the minimum temperature will decrease a little due to lack of clouding, but the maximum temperature will go up with each passing day because of increasing radiation.”

The minimum temperature was a high 25°C on Monday due to sultry conditions and radiation retained by clouds. But the maximum temperature could touch 33°C or even 34°C by the end of the month.

Though Monday’s rainfall was not substantial, it was the second highest in February in the past 10 years.
