Complimentary chakkarai pongal at all Amma canteen outlets

The 201 Amma canteens across the 200 wards are celebrating their first year anniversary today. On account of this, a complimentary plate of Tamil traditional dish, sweet pongal or chakkarai pongal is availed at all these outlets. It was on the CM’s birthday, the 19th February, these outlets were inaugurated and now, it’s been 1 year since inception.
Below are the sales details at Amma canteen in the past year:
- Eight crore and 93 lakh idlis
- 1 crore and 54 lakh plates of sambar rice
- 75 lakh plates of pongal
- 37 lakh plates oflemon rice
- 31.5 lakh plates of curry leaf rice
- 82.5 lakh plates of curd rice
At all these outlets, the sambar rice is the favorite dish for most visitors. The income received from these canteens is more than 26 crore. Here, the rate are as follows:
- Idli at Re 1
- Curd rice at Rs 3/plate
- Sambar rice, pongal, lemon rice and curry leaves rice at Rs 5/plate.
