Practicals for Class 10 students have been postponed indefinitely. Officials of the school education department informed schools on Thursday evening that they had been put off. Around 11 lakh students will take the Class 10 boards, and at least half were expected to attempt the practical exam on Friday.
Department officials said the decision was taken because the exam nominal rolls, giving the registration number and names of students taking the exams, were not ready. This year, the directorate of government examinations has made several changes to ensure there are no exam malpractices or errors. Last year, a bundle of answer scripts went missing and were later found strewn along railway tracks.
In the 2012-13 boards, several students were caught copying or indulging other malpractices.
This year the directorate stopped the usual practice of issuing dummy numbers for answer scripts by replacing them with barcodes. Students will not be given additional papers, but the main booklet will have 30 pages.
Officials said the implementation of these changes may have delayed the processing of the nominal roles
