Chennai Corporation pastes warning notices on the premises who evade property tax

The Chennai Corporation are taking various initiatives to collect the property tax from house owners and builders. In spite of all the efforts taken, there are many yet to pay the tax. Especially big institutions try to evade the tax.
For many years, these big firms are not paying the property tax. Now the civic body has pasted the posters in the premises of these firms which mention that they are tax defaulters.
One of the Corporation official has mentioned, “ Big firms are trying to evade tax and they have lots of arrears to pay. It is very difficult to collect the taxes from them. So it was decided to put up banners mentioning that they are tax defaulters. Now we are putting up posters in the premises who have not paid the tax. It is also mentioned in that notice that action will be taken against concerned people if they do not pay the tax immediately. When we go to past the posters, some people immediately pay the taxes.”
