Speical prayers and Poojas were performed throughout the night during Maha Sivarathri in all Lord Siva Temples. This year, Sivarathri Day has fallen on the Tamil month of /Masi’ during the declining phase of the moon on Chathurthi. This is considered to be very auspicious. This is known as ‘Uthama Sivarathri’.The benefit of observing penance on this day will be equivalent to observing penance on 3 Corores Sivarathris.
