Only the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam forlorn the rights to exploit the brand name “Tirupati Laddu”; Madras High Court accord a grant in benefit of TTD on civil case filled hostile to a several sweet stalls.
The TTD whispered that the ‘Tirupati Laddu’ was offered to pilgrims who visit Tirumala Tirupati as “Prasadam” at sponsored rates. The holiness of the ‘Laddu’ as having been presented at the feet of Lord Venketeshwara before being made available to devotees further mounted its grade to a level supreme.
The TTD said it was the sole manufacturer of the widely acclaimed ‘Tirupati Laddu.’ The prasadam had reaped a high reputation and attained distinctiveness over a long period of time, for which it was granted Geographical Indication (GI) protection.
In this flatter, many sweet stall vendors like Ganga Sweets of Anna Nagar had been selling Laddus under the tag of ‘Tirupati Laddu’.
During November M.S. Bharat, advocate for the TTD, notify The Hindu that “the defendants had come ahead to reconcile the issue affably by losing ground the tag name ‘Tirupati’ from their laddus.”
Since, the issue came forward for hearing in front of Justice R.S. Ramanathan on Tuesday; the relevant parties gave their acquiescence.
