As already announced, from May 2014, people can have the freedom to use the same mobile number despite migrating from one state to the other, or change the mobile network provider. Previously, in the year 2011, the public was availed with the mobile network portability facility that allows the user to port the mobile network from one to another. This is a 3 to 7 days process that costs just Rs 19. This is availed only within any particular state, but now an additional feature is being added that offers the same service for people from any state within the country.
Currently, when a person travels from one state to the other, the phone call charges will fall under the roaming tariff. Since there are a number of students, executives and business personnel who travel frequently, the government is planning to introduce the new scheme that expects a sigh of relief from such frequent commuters.
