Sand rate is reaching exorbitant heights in various cities including Chennai. Despite the hike in price, builders, individuals who are constructing their house and others who are revamping their buildings are continuing their construction works. Over 7000 loads of sand is required in Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and in Chennai city. However, the available quantity is just 2000 loads which in turn has hugely slowed down the construction process across various cities and districts. As of now, loads of sand are obtained from two major quarries which are at Perungal medu and Thirumalaichery districts, but these are however insufficient, as they do not match with the demand.
Considering this condition, the government has come up with an idea of introducing ten new quarries. Below are the details of these 10 quarries:
- 2 quarries in Thiruvallur
- 4 quarries in Vilupuram
- 4 quarries in Kadalur
Out of these, 4 quarries were launched yesterday, 4th March 2014.
