On Friday, The Central Board of Secondary Education put out a notice on its website announcing the date of the re-exam as April 2. All three sets of the question paper had been leaked on Tuesday, a day before the physics exam, and some students had bought them for Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000, a local paper had reported earlier.
According to CBSE sources, checks were conducted in all states and the leak was found only in Manipur. When asked about the chances of a leak in Chennai region, which includes the four southern states, Maharashtra, Goa, Puducherry, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Daman and Diu, CBSE regional director D T S Rao said the board has announced a re-exam only in Manipur.
Many principals feel that having a re-exam would be an inconvenience for children. The board has postponed all exams including Urdu, sociology, philosophy and agriculture that fall on April 9, 10, 12 and 17 to April 25, 21, 19 and 22 respectively to avoid a clash with the elections.
