Right at its first look, Kamal Hassan’s poster for Uthama Villain got its controversial comments and confusions pointing it to be a copy of a click by French photographer, Eric Lafforgue that is based on the traditional art form of Kerala, Theyyam.

The actor has now come up with overt clarifications on the controversy stating the poster was sketched as a fusion of Koothu and Theyyam – traditions of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It is not a mask; it’s done by face painting that took over four solid hours to do. One may find the lighting of the poster similar to that of the French photographer’s picture. But, comparing these two is like comparing a poster with two lovers leaning on each other’s chest as a copy of Ek Duje Ke Liye.

He also added the word Villain in the title is used as a pun meaning in two ways – one as bow, referred as Vil in Tamil and the other as archer.
