Speaking at the 25th National convention on environmental engineering, ‘Envision 2025’, the secretary of municipal administration and water supply, Phanindra Reddy stated the state government is taking necessary steps to provide treated water to the industries at Oragadam, Sripeurmbudur and Irungattukottai. The steps involve treating the water using atertiary treatment and reverse osmosis plants.
The conference was organized at Central Leather Research Institute on Wednesday and was inaugurated by governor, K. Rosaiah. It was a three-day long event organized by Institution of Public Health Engineers India (IPHE). Discussions were made on promoting safe water and sanitation methods.
“The TTRO plants implemented at Tuticorin are successful. Similar such plants are to be constructed at the industrial belt of North Chennai,” said Reddy. He added that this project will be taken care of by the metro water and the plant will have a supply capacity of more than 60 million litres per day. “Our ancestors have created a number of water bodies for irrigation and agricultural usage. We’ve left most of them unused. These should be restored in order to avail drinking water,” he stressed.
