5-hours power-cut again in Tamil Nadu – Due to shortage of power generation from windmills.

Posted on: 24/Mar/2014 4:43:59 PM

Due to unexpected reduction of power generation from the wind-energy plants and failure of some units in other power production plants, and the increase in power demand, all districts except Chennai will have daily 5-hours power cut. Students and the public have to face this hardship.

Repair work on the failed power plants is being expedited. Power generation from the wind energy has stopped entirely from Sunday (23rdMarch). However, power-cut was not enforced strictly because it was Sunday.

Over the last few months, the power cut was reduced considerably. However, over the last 4 days, there has been a severe power shortage. This is due to the failure of wind energy plants and some other units of power generation plants.

Up to Saturday, the power cut was for 5 hours. On Saturday, it was reduced to 2 hours. On Sunday, there was no power cut.

As per the news on Sunday, power generation from wind energy is entirely off.  Wind power generation depends on the climate. There has been frequent failure with the bursting of boiler tubes in some thermal power station generation units. So, decision on power cut is taken as per the situation on the given day.

Repair of the power generation units at Kaiga (220 MW), Ennore (60 MW), Mettur New (600 MW), Tuticorin (600 MW), and Neyveli expansion (250 MW) is being expedited.
