Power cut at industrial areas badly affects productivity

Power cut is again started. And obviously, small scale industries are badly affected without being able to continue their productivity. Especially, industries present in Coimbatore, Tripur, etc are facing huge losses, as their tasks are getting shifted to other states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. In Tamil Nadu, there are over 8.5 lakh micro, mini and small scale industries. The investment of all these industries together is around 50000 crore rupees.

These industries are engaged in manufacturing spare parts for automobiles, textile industry, paper industry, etc. Over 8000 products are getting manufactured by such small scale industries in the state. The final products manufactured here are exported to several foreign countries.

On account of lack of power crisis, the government last year imposed a 40 per cent reduced power supply to these industries and factories. The power supply was cut between 6 pm to 10 pm and a full day shutdown was made on any one day of every week. Further to implementing new power units, the power cut was later reduced from 40 per cent to 20 per cent.

Now, a similar condition has raised and this time, there is a 5 hours power cut every day. It is expected that over 4000 MW deficit condition would rise in the mere future.
