Power-cut has been enforced even during midnight over the last 2 days, rendering the people fretting and sleepless.
Officials have blamed the failure of the new power generation
units.
Power shortage has occurred with the arrival of summer. There is a delay in the wind energy power stations restoration. This has made for the severe shortfall of power. The officials have no choice but to enforce power-cuts.
Currently, the power shortage is around 1,500 MW. To meet this shortfall, a power-cut of around 1000 MW is enforced on residential areas ans shops. The power cut is if 2 to 3 hours daily. There have been power-cuts even during midnight over the last 2 days. People are sleepless with the stuffy weather without power.
1000MW power-cut was enforced on early Monday morning (7th April). There has been no generation at all from the wind energy power stations. Further, the new units at Mettur thermal power station, North Chennai power station, and Neyveli 2nd stage units have all failed to generate the rated power due to a variety of technical problems.
Wind energy power generation is expected to back in operation by the end of April.
