Veeranam Lake is situated near Kattumannar Koil in Cuddalore district. Its capacity is 47.50’. The current level stands at 42.50’. Because of insufficient rainfall last year and the severe summer this year, the water level has gone down very much. This led to a situation when the water supply for Chennai would be greatly affected.
As per the state government orders, water was released from Mettur Dam. This water reached the lower dam at Veeranam Lake yesterday (25th April) morning.
Water was released at the rate of 1100 Cubic Feet per second. The water reached the Veeranam Lake yesterday afternoon.
With the rise in water level, water supply to Chennai will be continued.
